All about .NET Version history:
In the late 1990s, under the label of the Next Generation Windows Service, Microsoft started the development of the .NET framework. The beta version of the .Net framework was released in 2001. In 2002 February, the first version of .NET was released that manages the code of Windows NT 4.0, 98, 2000, ME, and XP. After the First version, there have been nine more versions that came. Seven have launched with the new versions of visual studio. The final version of the .NET framework is 4.8, but maybe new versions will come as 5.0 in early 2021.
.NET framework 1.0
On 13 Feb 2002, the first version was published. The standard support of the first version was ended on 10 July 2007. However, the extended version ended on 14 July 2009 with the introduction of new editions.
- In March 2002, Service Pack 1 was released.
- In February 2005, Service Pack 2 was released.
- In August 2004, Service Pack 3 was released.
.NET framework 1.1
It was published in April 2003. It is also part of the released version of Visual Studio. It has its own as an SDK. It is the first version included that came up as a part of the Windows operating system.
- It supports the Internet Protocol version.
- It supports built-in ODBC.
- It enables the code security for ASP .NET application.
.NET framework 2.0
It was released in January 2006. SDK of this version was released on 29 November 2006. It supports the last version of Windows 98 and Windows Me.
The two service packs were released under 2.0 in 2007 and 2009.
.NET framework 3.0
.NET framework 3.0 is known as WinFX that released in 2006. It is also accessible for Window XP SP2 and Window Server 2003.
The two service packs were released under 3.0 in 2007 and 2010.
.NET framework 3.5
In 2007, it was released. It uses Common Language Runtime. The source code of the framework this version has been released under the license of Microsoft Reference.
Only one service pack was released under this version in 2008.
.NET framework 4.0
Before the final version of the .NET framework 4.0. There have been many releases but the final was released in 2010.
- It improves the support of parallel computing.
- It supports new features of Visual Basic and #C.
- It introduced Common Language Runtime 4.0.
- It also supports a new code contract.
.NET framework 4.5
In 2012, it was released. A new improved set of features was introduced in the 4.5 version.
Features :
- We can limit regular expression.
- It supports UTF-16 Unicode.
- It gives better performance while retrieving resources.
There are two versions 4.5.1 and 4.5.2 in 2013 and 2014.
.NET framework 4.6
It was published in 2015 whereas it was announced in 2014. The two new versions 4.6.1 and 4.6.2 was released in 2015 and 2016.
.NET Framework 4.7 was released in 2017.
.NET Framework 4.8 was released in 2018.
