V's of Big Data

Big Data is an extremely large amount of data that is analyzed to find trends, human behavior, trends, etc. Data is being produced at an exponential rate. As a matter of fact, around 90% of today's data was created in the last two years. Today's data is so big that it is not possible to store and analyze it in a traditional system. The size of data to be considered as big data is constantly varying factor and new tools are constantly being developed to handle big data. In order to understand the massive amount of data, it was broken down into 5V's- Velocity, Volume, Value, Variety, and Veracity.

Velocity

Velocity is referred to as the speed at which the data are being generated. Every day a huge amount of data is being generated through the number of messages sent and received in WhatsApp, facebook, videos uploaded on youtube, twitter messages, number of mails, etc. This data not only must be analyzed but also the speed of transmission, and access to the data must also remain immediate to allow real-time access to the website. Big data technology allows us to analyze the data while it is being generated.

Volume

Volume is referred to as the huge amount of data being generated. Each second incredible amount of data is generated through social media, credit cards, photos, videos, etc. The amount of data is so huge that is cannot be stored and analyzed in traditional database technology. We use the distributed systems, where data is divided into parts and distributed into different locations and brought together by software.

Value

The most important element of big data is value. Today the amount of data is enormous so extracting useful information through the data is necessary through a business perspective as the company lies on this valuable information.

Variety

There is a variety of data is available now, data looks different as it used to look in the past. We now not only use structured data but also semi-structured and unstructured data. Today's data is unstructured. As a matter of fact around 80% percentage of today's data is unstructured which is generated through photos, videos, social media messages, etc.

Veracity

This refers to the inconsistency and uncertainty which may be shown by the data sometimes, which hampers the analyzing and processing of the data effectively.
