Though Bison and Buffalo look similar in appearance and they both belong to the Bovidae family and both mainly feed on grass, but there are many differences.

Buffaloes belong to South Asia and the African region.

Buffaloes are mainly two types of Buffaloes:

  • Cape Buffalo-found mostly in Saharan plains of Africa
  • Domestic Asian Water Buffalo-found in Asia, North Africa, Europe

Bison belong to South and North America. Bison is also found in the European region and are known as European Bison. Appearance-wise they are different from American Bisons.

Characterised by a large hump on the shoulder.

No hump on the shoulder.

Horns are small and very sharp

It has long horns but not as sharp as Bison

The shoulder and upper body have thick fur.

Buffaloes have no or thin hair on their body.

The presence of a Thick Beard is one of the major characteristics.

They don’t have a beard.

An average Bison has a weight of 1600 kg.

The weight of Buffalo ranges from 700 to 1200 kg.

The average lifespan of a Bison is 13 to 21 years

The lifespan of Buffalo ranges from 25 to 30, but Cape Buffaloe's lifespan is typically lower around 15 years

Not used as domestic pets

Used as domestic or farm animal

Though eagle and kite are both similar in the manner that they prey on birds, but they differ in size, habitat, hunting style etc

Butterfly 

They are bright in colour, flies during the day and are found all around the world. Approximately 180 species of butterfly are there in the world. The beautiful pattern that we see on the wings are due to the pigments found on the scales. Pygmy Blue is the smallest butterfly in the world and Queen Alexandra's birdwing is the largest in the world.

They mostly feed on plant-based diets like pollen and nectar. The life cycle of a butterfly has 4 stages:

  • Egg
  • Larva
  • Pupa
  • Adult

Moth 

They're not bright in colour and is active mainly during the night. They do not have bulbs at the tip of their antennas. They are also herbivores in nature and animals like rodents, reptiles, spiders and birds feed on them. They also have 4 stages in the life cycle
